The Maus in typical high tier German fashion is massive, has lots of armor, and looks intimidating. This guide for World of Tanks Maus weak spots breaks down the entire tank’s armor effectiveness. Learn where to shoot anywhere on the Maus to make sure you are hitting its weakest armor areas.
There are a few things to keep in mind if engaging an enemy Maus. First off if the Maus is angled and facing towards you…don’t both pecking away at it’s obvious frontal lower hull as it is no longer a weak spot. Also, don’t bother shooting the small view port on top of the turret as it does no damage to the Maus’ health points. Keep in mind the side of a Maus has additional spaced armor on the lower half of the side. It does this where the armor starts to cut back in. This makes it harder to damage the lower portion of the side armor compared to the upper hull area. Finally, keep in mind that the Maus’ main weakness’ are its size and speed. If you don’t have a favorable match up then retreat and come at it another way.
World of Tanks Maus Weak Spots Frontal View
Frontally the Maus is extremely difficult to deal with for any tank that comes across it. No visible part of the frontal armor drops below 200mm thick. For lower tier tanks it might not be even possible to penetrate the Maus’ front armor depending on your gun. The weakest area is the lower glacis that sits at 244mm effective armor. After that you are left with a few areas on the turret front that sit between 261mm-299mm effectiveness. Outside of these limited areas you face armor well above 300mm effective armor.
One life saving weak spot depends on your position relative to the Maus. If you find yourself in a very short tank or situated slightly lower than the Maus a very weak area opens up. While the “lower track area” is extremely strong it gets most of its strength from the 200mm thick spaced armor covering it. If you are able to shoot up under the spaced armor plates here and hit the 55mm armor behind it then it might pay off. This is very situational since often times you are unable to hit any hull armor without hitting the spaced armor covering it.
World of Tanks Maus Weak Spots Angled View
Once a Maus angles it is essentially game over even for tier 10 tanks. The turret weak spots from the frontal view can be used if the Maus driver does not angle his turret in between shots in which case both the frontal turret and side turret are immune to anything thrown at them. The orange highlighted areas seen above still sit above 300mm effectiveness on a properly angled Maus. The only hope for damaging one on the hull comes with the front track wheel area. Shooting below the spaced armor plates here allows you to hit the tracks(50mm) and then 140mm thick hull armor. Outside of this area there aren’t many options against a well angled Maus.
World of Tanks Maus Weak Spots Side View
While the armor on the side of a Maus is still impressive it becomes much more manageable to deal with if you avoid shooting certain areas. If you remember to not shoot low on the side hull you will hit the weak 185mm effective upper side hull. Shoot to low and you hit armor that sits between 245mm and 295mm effectiveness. On the turret side the armor is between 210mm and 242mm effectiveness which is manageable. Once the armor starts behind angled keep in mind that these values dramatically increase.
World of Tanks Maus Weak Spots Rear View
Much like the rest of the Maus the rear is very well armored and can still be tricky to deal with for some tanks. For most tanks rear areas highlighted in green don’t get close to 200mm effectiveness. The Maus on the other hand doesn’t see its rear armor drop below 161mm effectiveness. The main areas to avoid on the rear are the angled edges and the track areas. If you shoot other areas you’ll be hitting 161mm-216mm effective armor. At tier 10 most tanks can deal with this without to many fears of bounces.
